Despite Nirvana’s short-term mainstream success, we feel the echoes of their impact on alternative rock music today, bringing an end to the reign of hair metal. If you think of alternative ‘90s music, chances are that the first band you think of is Nirvana. Despite the new major commercial success in the US and UK, fans were relieved that the alternative sound they fell in love with was still prevalent in the band’s third album, In Utero (1993). In Utero topped American and British album charts, selling more than 5 million copies in the US.

The album artwork features a female model stripped of her skin to show her internal organs, with two wings spread behind her. This angelic figure was made using a Transparent Anatomical Manikin (TAM), however, much of the artwork now depicts a slightly less detailed figure. The label, worried about backlash, had prepared 2 alternative covers in case fan reactions were poor, but this never came to pass. By paying close attention, you can see elements of the anatomical nature of the model on this band merch; however, the bolder, blockier colours create a more solid silhouette. This band t-shirt is made of a cotton and recycled polyester blend, great for summer with its lightweight and absorbent qualities.
